A Quick Update: Outta Quarantine! Well, almost.

Updated: Dec 4, 2020

Hello hello! We’re down to the final hours of hotel living!!! WHOOHOOO!!!! 🥳

It’s currently 10:30am on a Monday morning as I’m writing this, and I’ll soon be off to campus on the final bus of the day at 2:30! Today’s plan consists of packing and travel time, but more importantly...FINDING OUT OUR HOUSES AND ROOMMATES!!! So far, house assortments have been kept super secret from us firsties until we arrive on campus although I do have my suspicions... 👀 (*cough Vic House).

Here at Pearson, students are assigned to one of five houses- Calgary, East, Japan, McLaughlin (MCL), and Victoria, in those respective colours! Each consists of 10 bedrooms, 1 common room, 2 bathrooms (2- 3 shower stalls), and lovely house parents who live on campus and oversee the well-being of students in their house. If you've popped by my blog before, you'd know that the diversity of UWC sets it apart. Like all my co-years, I’ll share a room with 3/4 other roommates from different parts of the world- it’s a tradition that's typically been upheld across all UWCs since the opening of Atlantic College in 1976!

Once we arrive, “Quorientation” is set to transition into actual orientation for the next few days while we get to know the rules and campus grounds. Several of them have already been relayed to us, the most notable being ‘mandatory masks and social distancing outside your house’ aka. ‘no hugging anyone outside your house’ 🥺 I’m sure it’ll be a big adjustment, considering Pearson is a VERY VERY hug-friendly environment, but the guidelines are in place with the hopes that it’ll allow my 70 international co-years to finally get to Canada.

As for actually leaving room 431 and exploring BC outside this however-many-square-feet-of-hotel-space, I can hardly contain my excitement! The schedule allows us time to unwind a bit tonight before tours, swim tests, and photos tomorrow, but I also heard that there’s a campus-wide outdoor lawn party this evening and possibly Bay Jumps?!?! I can’t wait to meet everyone in person and finally set sight on the beautiful bay :)

Well that’s the latest from me- thanks for reading! Please enjoy some digital quarantine doodles ft. my friends as fluffy cartoons...

My next update will detail all the ins-and-outs of my arrival on campus (AHHHH that’s only four hours awayyyyyy!!!!!) so be sure to stick around!

I’ll now resume pacing my room until its time to go 🤣

See you soon!

Ps. UWC applications (click the hyperlink) are now open in most countries! Further questions? Don't hesitate to reach out - I'd love to hear from you!

PPs. Thank you to all the lovely people who have reached out so far! It's incredibly gratifying (and equally as exciting!) to know that this mess of a blog has been helpful to some. I wish you all the best of luck with your applications : )

Until next time,
